Genetic Evidence for Indo-Western Pacific Olive Ridley Sea Turtles in Mexican Waters

The olive ridley sea turtle is predominantly an epipelagic species with no apparent migration corridors. Research in feeding areas other has identified aggregations of individuals from diverse backgrounds; however, specific have been for the ridley. We used mtDNA control region sequencing to identify haplotype composition 85 turtles (adult and immature both sexes) captured released Central Mexican Pacific waters. Amplified fragments (751 bp) revealed presence 17 haplotypes (h = 0.5877 ± 0.0622 π 0.001698 0.001185), 16 them were phylogenetically grouped within lineage Eastern Pacific, but Lo37 showed close evolutionary relationships East Coast India. Lagrangian drifter data that West–East transport Indo-Pacific tropical might be possible through passive drift.
